MAKAH SHOREBIRD RATTLE CA 1920-30
James Hunter lived in Neah Bay and was a product of the last Chief of the Ozette Village. His brother Shubid Hunter was a silversmith at Neah Bay. James was a prolific carver of Sea Wolf headdresses and rattles, paddles, and model canoes in the 1920-30s and selling his carvings at the Queets Cabins and Store as well as the same at the Hoh and Neah Bay. the rattle depicts a SEA GULL and is painted and varnished with a raffia lanyard attached to the handle. The carving is out of Yew wood
