This Red trade trunk is from the Walter Waters “Bear Totem Curio” in Wrangel, Alaska open from 1902 until 1952.  The camphor wood trunks are covered with pig skin and brass tacks after being painted in floral designs.  The trunks carried trade goods to the North American West Coast through the Philippines and China.  Native peoples used these trunks in their long houses for storage.
