John Haiten was an interpreter and signer of the Medicine Creek Treaty with General Issac Stevens, in 1854. The tunic ended up with a Presbyterian minister named Myron Ells. He died in in 1907 and his wife with the help of an Indian family moved to Port Angels and the Indian family was gifted a number Indian items from the Ells collection. The tunic was one of the gifted items. The rest of the story is available upon purchase.
